15 Jan Resolutions or Intentions: Either Way, We Have Goals!
At the start of a new year, many people begin to make new year resolutions or intentions for the present year, which is now, 2021. There are multiple ways that people map out their goals for the year. Here are three ways people tackle their goals in a new year.

Goal Setting
- Vision Boards – The concept of a vision board is a collection of images, phrases, and words that a person desires to manifest in the new year. People who create vision boards will generally complete their board by the end of January, if not sooner. I would go out on a limb and suggest that people who do vision boards are creatives. A vision board is planner meets scrap booking. For some people, the creation of a vision board has biblical ties. There is a verse that reads, “And the Lord answered me, and said, write the vision down, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it”. Habakkuk 2:2.

2. Planners – People use planners in their every day lives, both traditional and electronic planners. However, there are planners specifically designed for goal setting. The use of these types of planners provides people who are slightly more rigid in their planning to set dates and ensure that the goals that they set for themselves are SMART (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant and Time-based).
3. Post-it Notes – Did you ever watch Being Mary Jane? Gabrielle Union’s character was the post-it queen. Post-its are useful because you can color code task. Post-its can be used in addition to your planner and they easily stick onto mirrors. For me, this takes a great deal of organization but is found to be useful and can be even more effective when accompanied with a planner.
I like both the vision board and the planner. Last year, I created a small version of a vision board and kept it in my planner. Keeping my vision in eyesight, whether on a board or in a planner is key. I personally enjoy scrap booking. So, I use a planner. The Happy Planner to be exact, with ample stickers. That way I get the best of both worlds.

Which ever you choose, one way to ensure your success at accomplishing your goals is to have a plan of how you are going to execute. I am not always that good at execution, even when I know what it takes. I’m a work in progress and I am blessed to have friends and family that help me with accountability. If you read the blog, “Saying “No” Is Saying “Yes” to You!”, I was, and sometimes I am still (old habits are hard to break) that person who would just say, “yes” without even checking my calendar. Times are changing and I like it. Here is the concept I am using this year in conjunction with joining SDG Coaching in their manifestation challenge.
The 3 P’s: Plan, Practice, Profit.
- Plan – What do you want to accomplish? You can even break your goals down into quadrants so that they are more attainable.
- Practice – What do you need to do to accomplish your plan or goal? Write down 2-3 steps that are essential to the success of your goal. And, Enjoy the process.
- Profit – How does accomplishing your goal benefit you? Profit is not always financial. Anything that is beneficial to your success is profit. I’m not saying you don’t want to be where the money resides, but you don’t want to be where your heart and health isn’t.
Word for the Year
This year, decided on two words that will be my focus for 2021. Intention and Present. It took me some time to decide. I knew I really didn’t want to create a list of resolutions. I figured if I chose words as a foundation, I could use those words as a mantra if you will. These two words will act as reminders as I work on growing my business, professional development and improving my engagement in self-care.
Do you have a new year resolution? Have you chosen a word of focus for 2021? Let me know in the comments. You can also join me in the Manifestation Challenge over at www.sdgcoaching.com.
